Serene
Serene is a postpartum breathing belt designed for new moms. The belt assists and guides new moms with their breathing exercises, which is integral for muscle relaxing and strengthening during the postpartum recovery phase.
The main goal of this group project was to empower moms with resources during their postpartum journey. Breathing exercises play a crucial role in postpartum recovery, helping to relax muscles, rebuild strength, and promote overall well-being. Serene fills this gap with a belt that actively guides and supports mothers in their breathing exercises.

Why Do We Need This?
Postpartum period is a time of tremendous change, responsibility and healing. The care you receive after giving birth is just as important as prenatal care. There are a number of physical and emotional changes a mother goes through after the birth of her baby. Research shows that many pregnancy-related complications arise after the delivery.
* 75% of women experience symptoms of pelvic floor issues after their pregnancy.
* 1 in 7 women experience perinatal mood or anxiety disorder like postpartum depression or anxiety.
In the current market, an array of exercise tools and equipment, including kegel balls ($30-$50), electrical stimulators ($149), kegel ball + electrical stimulator ($199), and thigh master ($15.49), is available to address pelvic floor problems. However, none of these tools are specifically tailored to emphasize relaxation and breathing exercises, crucial elements for effective postpartum recovery.
Design Process
Material Exploration
We sought a material that offers easy adaptability, flexibility, and comfort when worn. Our goal is to encourage users to engage in breathing exercises using the belt, leading us to explore materials such as tessellated structures and flexible LEDs that provide real-time feedback.
Form Exploration
Through the design process, our objective was to craft a belt that not only prioritizes comfort but also instills confidence in mothers during this stage. We aimed for a stylish and elegant appearance, steering away from the bulkiness associated with typical exercise belts.
Final Design Concept
Serene is a postpartum breathing belt that help moms with their breathing exercises, which is important in 3 stages of postpartum healing timeline. With Serene, we provide new moms with the support and assistance to relax and strengthen the inner core muscles during their postpartum recovery stage.
Brand Strategy
The branding strategy behind Serene was guided by three core attributes—Comfort, Relaxation, and Confidence. These pillars shaped every decision, from the product’s design to its visual identity, ensuring that it truly resonates with the needs of new moms during their postpartum recovery. The name Serene was chosen to reflect this thoughtful approach. It embodies calmness and inner peace, offering a sense of reassurance to mothers navigating this transformative period.
Visual Identity
More than just a word, Serene evokes feelings of balance and self-assurance, qualities that align perfectly with the product’s purpose. The chosen color palette is soft and soothing, designed to be visually calming and emotionally uplifting. These colors reflect the journey of healing and self-assurance that Serene represents. The tagline, “Postpartum Wellness Reimagined,” encapsulates the product’s goal of redefining recovery, making it something moms can feel connected to and empowered by. From the name to the design, the branding emphasizes a nurturing and empowering experience for new moms as they regain their strength and confidence.
